Case study: Is a 'vaxxie' a thing?

We have already discussed the pandemic's continued effect on our language in 2021, including the coining of the term 'vaxxie':

See previous posts:

Here, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk employs the slang term 'vaxxie' in an October tweet about people getting their Covid vaccinations. The use of non-Standard English is accompanied by several emoji, including the vaccine emoji, which has become popular this year.

Just like Daniel Andrews, Palaszczuk (another Labor premier) employs slang in her communication with the public through social media in an effort to build rapport and show that she is up to date with the current pandemic lingo.

The use of the term 'vaxxie' can also function to show solidarity with other Twitter users who have been vaxxed.

Presumably the lifespan of this slang term will be quite short; a good example of the ephemeral nature of slang!
